It is essential to accurately measure the windows before purchasing curtains, blinds, or replacing the frames. Following guidelines will help you in measuring your windows precisely.
Step#1: Horizontal measurements
First of all, begin with up to 3 horizontal measures. For this purpose, target the three measures as horizontally from the top, at the bottom, and the middle separately.
After that, mark the smallest measurement. It will provide you the estimate opening width, which is crucial to know before investing in a replacement window.
Step#2: Vertical Measurements
Similar to Step 1, take three measurements of the window vertically, from the top and from both the sides to the bottom of the window. Mark the smallest measurements likewise to get the rough opening height.
If your window sill isn’t flat but is slightly sloped, then measure the distance from the topmost or the highest point.
Step#3: Window Depth Measurement
Lastly, one of the most crucial steps of windows measurement is the depth of the window. Many windows are pretty deep, and thus, they cannot fit into the window opening. That can create severe complications during window replacement.
To measure the depth of the windows, take a measuring tape and run it from the outside to the inside of the frame as well as edge to edge. Repeat this step from multiple locations and record the smallest measurement to get the final dimension.
Here, keep in mind that if you are unable to open your window due to any reason, then measure the depth on either side and then combine them. Now, add the thickness of the glass pane in these side measures. Generally, a glass pane is up to 1/8 inches that make a thickness of up to 3mm.
